How many of you say “I’ll do that when I retire.”?
Be mindful to appreciate the now and not project too much of your fun and living too far into the future. Today you are the youngest you will ever be.
I am sad to hear so many people get to that retirement date only to discover that their energy, health or circumstances do not quite allow them to live the life they had been planning for.
What if we stopped treating life as something we earn later? How about today you use the “permission slip” offered to you (above) and go and have a conversation about creating more flexibility in your working days.
What about finding something more purposeful in or out of your role if the zest has gone off the boil? How about expanding the thought on whether the work you are currently doing actually fits who you have become?
Permission to do what fuels you not what drains you.
Listen to your body, your thoughts and that quiet voice that says “Surely there has to be more than this?”
Here is your Next Chapter exercise for this week:
Finish this sentence without overthinking it: If I stopped worrying about what I “should” do at my age, I would…
Once again, do not judge your answer. Simply notice what pops up for you.
Your next chapter does not have to wait for retirement. What do you give yourself permission to do?
I will be exploring this theme in a virtual workshop later this month. If the question has got you thinking, feel free to nudge me but for now, start with the sentence above.
